Moon 04:09
Last night I was dreaming about you my love, last night I was dreaming of you. In the morning you never materialized, in the morning you didn't come through. So I curse at the day that stands in the way of the night time that brings me to you I pray for a sleep so dark and so deep to swallow me like a tomb. Please come soon, I'll bring you the moon if you do Please come soon, my life's in ruins Last night we were dancing in the grand ballroom in a Palace made out of spoons When you stopped suddenly to ask of me "Hey darling, do you think we're doomed?" Please come soon, I'll bring you the moon if you do Please come soon, my life's in ruins Last night you were speaking in tongues again Last night you were speaking in tongues You were naked apart from the birds in your hair They were singing "Get out of here" Please come soon, I'll bring you the moon if you do Please come soon, my life's in ruins Last night I was dreaming about you my love last night I was dreaming of you In the morning light you failed to arrive, in the morning you didn't come true.

Always Kind 03:51
She makes it all so much better, she makes it all so much better. She is the water in the desert, she is the comfort in forever. She is the safe way through the mountains, she is the pennies in your fountain. And she's always always kind. She's always on my mind She is the keys to the kingdom, she is the window that you sing from. She is the wall around your city, she is the armour on your body. She is the stitches in your torn clothes, she is the candle in your window. And she's always, always kind. She is the Rock you build your church on, she is the fire in your sermon. She is the silence in your temple, she holds you close when you tremble. She is the prayer upon your tongue, she is your ever burning sun. And she's always always kind. And she's always all over my little mind She makes it all so much better...

Puzzle Box 03:38
Where are you trying to get to? Deep down , way down in your heart you're already there Come on join the dots You know what you are Underneath the locks In the rattle of your puzzle box. What is it that you chase, endlessly? You're after the bitter, you're after the sweet Come down from your mountain and breathe easily Come on join the dots You know what you are Underneath the locks In the rattle of your puzzle box The scratches in your wall The shadows in your vault Who's there Knock ! Knock! Show yourself !!!

Did you mean what you said when you said you were thinking about leaving here Well it got me to thinking how would you feel about having company? All we need is a stick and a good handkerchief to tie to it And we'll fill it with things that adventurers bring when they go Where the world is wide and we ain't no fools Yeah the world is wide and we make the rules Yeah I meant what I said when I said I was thinking about leaving here I've been building a boat made from barrels and ropes that I found You can come with me but I'll have to swear you to secrecy 'Cos if somehow our mother's find out then all is lost ('Cos they've forgot) That the world is wide and we ain't no fools Yeah the world is wide and we make the rules And there will be snakes, there will be ladders sometimes There will be maps showing us treasure to find You can put your hands up anywhere and pick an orange from the sky (oh oh my) Meet me in the yard at the end of history We'll climb the wall that leads to the railway tracks and we won't look back Oh the world is wide and we ain't no fools Yeah the world is wide and we make the rules

There are holes in most of my arguments deeper than the greatest lakes. There are fault lines in my character, I have made mistakes There are flaws flaws in my philosophy but it works for me If I can keep away from tragedy what more do I need? Yeah I do what I do and I try not to bother you Of course I lie to myself almost every other day Little tricks , these are the little tricks I've found, help keep things in place Yeah I do what I do and I try not to bother you I think often about discipline but it never thinks of me I've got cracks they need filling in Oh I'll be kept busy Yeah I do what I do and I try not to bother you Yeah I do what I do and I'll never dishonor you I will leave you to your thinking , I won't block your road May you grow old without wrinkling but please leave me alone.
6.
Tug 04:28
There are things that tug at you, There are things that tug at me Sometimes rightly sometimes wrong Sometimes lightly sometimes strong There's no burying some things I'm afraid You won't ever dig a deep enough grave There are ghosts that follow you There are ghosts that follow me Make you doubt the road your on Pour the poison in your song There's no burying some things I'm afraid You won't ever dig a deep enough grave There are rooms that lie beneath Hiding things you should not keep The Static for your stereo The Cracks inside the truth you hold There's no burying some things I'm ashamed They will hang forever from your name You might try to close the book draw a line underneath Close your eyes and never look But you've already seen too much There's no burying some things I'm afraid You won't ever dig a deep enough grave But don't you run or cry out to be saved Just look them in the eye and show them you are brave

She's out drawing bright white hearts in the pitch dark night She's out drawing bright white hearts She's hoping they might somehow bring her back to life and she likes how the chalk feels in her hands She's out drawing breath, only talks now to herself, There's no one else out there that she owns She doesn't speak the language, she doesn't know the name of this city and I heard she was a dancer before the war She moves like a bright white ghost from another time Her bright hearts are glowing on the sky line People throw her coins but she leaves 'em there In her mind they are flowers on a stage She's out drawing bright white hearts in the pitch dark night She's out drawing bright white hearts All over the City they are

Out of Time 02:30
I am overwhelmed by all these delights that now lay before me I am driven to distraction by all the brightly lit attractions It's a train-wreck let's be honest, we let our dreams go cold forgotten Gather up our best excuses, and our favourite alibis and we'll send this year to meet it's brothers in the archives When do we come up for air? When do we come up Out of time, every time, time after time. Out of time, every time, time after time.
9.
What would you do if you were to start over Who would you tell would you keep it silent A wave of your hand or a click of your fingers Take a flame to all you are Oh answer me, truthfully my love are these the kind of things you're thinking of How would it feel to wake up in a new body All of the lines have vanished from your skin Given the chance with no strings attached Would you become smoke in the air? Oh answer me, truthfully my love are these the kind of things you're dreaming of? If you could go back to the very, very start Think of the moves you'd make! I know it's crossed your mind, many times I've watched the hands spin backwards in your eyes Oh answer me, truthfully my love are these the kind of things you're dreaming of?

Waves 03:23
What a year what a year, I got no time, I got no time. Were you pulled along, were you dragged under in an avalanche of days Sunrise Sunrise, We rise and run, run now for our life In the spinning lights in the hot coals we wrestle and we roar Oh We go on, On this stage, Forever turning, thrashing in the waves What a day what a day, what a day what a day... all of us safe, all of us saved. I hear your voice, I know you're out there but I cannot see your face Out of time every time, trapped inside a storm with no eye Hey what became of all the oceans that we crossed in our mind Oh we go on, on this stage, Forever turning, thrashing in the waves Oh we go on, tied to this stage, Forever turning, trashing in the waves

about

Praise for Outlines:

"It’s fragile, it’s beautiful, it’s elegant... it’s everything that you’d hope for from an album." - Dan Hegarty 2fm

"With it's overtones of Damien Rice and James Vincent McMorrow, this is an absorbing, uplifting record" - 8/10 Hotpress

A beautiful album from the Irish Singer/Songwriter, where gentle folk melodies and intricate musicianship blend with introspective vocals to an almost magical effect." Mark Kavanagh - The Star

"Doran has nailed a very particular tone and feeling with this record." Lauren Murphy - The Irish Times

"Doran excels himself with ‘Outlines’ as a whole and must be applauded for stripping matters back" 9/10. - Greg Clifford for Unsigned and Independent Magazine.

"The album glistens with musicianship and crackles with gentle, introspective songwriting. Outlines establishes the artist as a very special songwriting talent." 9/10 Stephen White (The Last Mixed Tape Blog)

"This guy I think is bound for glory... if he's not careful"

- John Creedon (Rte Radio 1)

Part Nick Drake, part David Gray (seriously), Tug is another blunt missive from the borders of real and imagined, images of ghosts, poison and ‘..rooms that lie beneath..’, sickly-nothings in between the notes that propel a song intent on self-flagellation – if these are just stories, they’re incredibly well delivered.

- Paul Woodgate for Folk Radio UK

Recorded in a small lake house in the Irish Midlands* from winter 2013 to spring 2014. We borrowed some beautiful microphones and tracked and mixed the entire project on an old Roland VS 2480 studio**.
No click-tracks, auto-tune or other studio wizardry was used in the making of this album.

* With additional recording in Kildare and Dublin.
