Hunter's Sketches
I'm livin' in a sketched out version of my future
and it's been this way for as long as I remember
and I'm stuck here till I'm fleshed out by the one who holds on tightly to the painting brush
and I've never been more sure than I am now that he is not in any kind of rush
and I am content oh yeah, to sit back and watch you hunt
and from a distance gather sketches of my love
I'm kissing a fully drawn woman
and to her I am fully and completely drawn into like she was a song
and I count all my stars and I feel special 'cos Im the only one who sings along.
and I am content oh yeah, to sit back and watch you hunt
and from a distance gather sketches of my love
I am content oh yeah, to sit back and watch you hunt
and from a distance gather songs, these sketches of my love

Sacred Place

Sacred Place
I was cleaning your carpet on a saturday in Spring, I was drinking Argentine wine with you.
And I dusted the bookcase as you prettied up your face, there were diamonds on your breast
and sparkles in your eyes
and you were leaning into shafts of sunlight, you were lit up like a real life saint,
you were glowing like a holy icon in a sacred place
But I did not notice this at first I must confess , my eyes were someplace else, foolish things.
But you waited patiently, for you wanted me to see how golden you'd become, spinning in the sun.
and you were leaning into shafts of sunlight, you were lit up like a real life saint,
you were glowing like a holy icon in a sacred place

Eternity

Eternity
It's hard not to admire
The great marching of events forward
We're just stealing a quick look here
A snapshot of the infinite
And all our days are borrowed
and everything gets swallowed
By this deep sea
this bottomless eternity
oh yeah
It's a full blown miracle.
that there's anything here at all
Are you ready to fall
Into line when you get called
And all our days are borrowed
and everything gets swallowed
By this deep sea
this bottomless eternity
oh yeah
Sent by God, and he said
Here's the water, here's the land
So very little's in your hands
So very much comes down to chance
And all our days are borrowed
and everything gets swallowed
By this deep sea
this bottomless eternity
oh yeah
We will sow and we will reap
we will laugh as we weep
but these souls they're not our's to keep
no these souls are not our's to keep
And all our days are borrowed
and everything gets swallowed
By this deep sea
this bottomless eternity
oh yeah

Pathways
Nothing seems to be wrong or off balance
Even in your most idle speeches I need every word
There's not a question that either you or I fear to ask
We confidently throw our answers out into the dark
But I won't deny...
I've got vague longings, I've got old fashioned hopes and fears
They've been unchanged for centuries in free minds everywhere
But I know mine do scatter to the four winds and disappear
at the first sounds of your footsteps I watch my pathways clear
This is contentment from what I know of the word
I've no desire for any other soul in this world
so may we both grow ancient maybe even wise and may we survive
To watch smaller versions of ourselves love, learn, laugh and thrive
But all of this aside...
I've got vague longings, I've got old fashioned hopes and fears
They've been unchanged for centuries in free minds everywhere
But I know mine do scatter to the four winds and disappear
at the first sounds of your footsteps I watch my pathways clear

When You Can

When you can
When you can greet the morning with a song and not a sigh
when you can watch your clock tick and know you are alive
when you can find the finest resturaunt in which to dine
for the time will come when these here things will be beyond you
When you can be light hearted and all your secrets tell
when you can forgive everyone, you know they're doomed aswell
when you can be romantic as a midnight eiffel tower
when you can be as wild and free as a near by meteor shower
for the time will come when these here things will be beyond you , and beyond me
when you can...
when you can go the distance
when you can go explore
and I beg you leave your paranoid visions on the shore
If invited join the orgy and if not just pretend
when you can burn your candle out at each and every end
for the time will come when these here things will be beyond you, and beyond me

The Composer
03:54

Composer
The eyes of the composer they become electric as the song slowly opens, itself in front of him, shining in new skin, as soft as any baby's.
The hands of the composer lovingly run over the contours of his new gift ,and he turns it and he twists it, he beats it with his fist it's slowly taking shape
Then he leans a little closer, to his song and whispers in it's ear "Please have no fear"...
and into it he pours all his energies and all his love for beauty.
Stories from his heart, and pictures from his head and words stolen from others. Whatever it might take, to shake them both awake and give their eyes their sparkle
Then he leans a little closer, to his song and whispers in it's ear "Please have no fear"...
This isn't a song for the dancefloors
it may never hang on your wall
but it won't ever beg for approval
or weep for your applause
No this isn't a song for your dancefloors,
It won't ever hang on your walls,
but when all of your jingles have played out this might still stand tall,
this might still stand tall...
With these words spoken,
composer's eyes closed over
and with both grace and honour
he began to let it go.

Someone Else's Heart

Someone else's heart
He's got someone else's heart inside of him, he can't remember so well just how it got in
some poor soul with no more use for it was kind enough to hand it over
and with this brand new organ sealed tight in his chest all the wise men there agreed that he would have to rest
after all it's a delicate procedure a young boy with a brand new heart to master
Inside this child a war is stirring and all across his lungs the enemy hurries
side stepping the guards all lost in slumber
when outside shadows worry worn out numbers
He's got someone else's hand wrapped around his
he's been lying there too long in someone else's bed
they remove the tubes that help him breathe
he coughs lightly, they've missed something they should have seen
an infection grows angry in his chest
multiplying quickly desroys all of his defense
he's weak now from constant attack, wise men worry and pray that he might fight back
Inside this child a war is raging, and all his body guards are so slow waking
traitors throats are filled with songs of treason
and outside shadows beg him not to leave them alone
but our brave little soldier, he dreams up a fever, and he burns all his enemies and sings out loud for life
he's still got someone else's heart inside of him, he can't remember just how it got in

Steeped In You

Steeped In You
On the surface it seems that we're unlikely to be soulmates
but I think we might laugh at the same things and read all the same books
and if they make you cry I'll race to your side and put my arms round you
and I would be dressed in my Sunday dress each day for you
And I wanna be steeped in you
And I'd drop all I had in my hand at your command
And I'd be the best lover that you've ever had, just give me a chance
And I'd sing my heart out all over this land, the songs would be for you.
But they're not written yet, no they're not written yet, but they will astound you I'm sure
And they will be steeped in you.
Yeah, I wanna be steeped in you.
I wanna know your traditions and study the patterns of your moods
I cannot deny I'm not bonafide but I am a good man
and I'll try yeah I'll try to fill you with pride and you're heart with laughter
and if you would allow I'd softly kiss your brow and swear my life to you
but I've no courage yet, but my mind is set, soon I will tell you it all
I wanna be steeped in you
yeah I wanna be steeped in you
I will obey your conditions and follow the fine print in your moods
but you're so totally aloof
I am completely consumed
we're barely introduced
but I wanna be steeped in you

Twisted Freak
Hey friend I've known you a long long time, we've been through all sorts all down the line
I know your secrets , you know mine, I am your weakness, your strength, your spine.
Hey friend I took you into my home, You made your bed inside my dome,
you send your whispers down through my bones. Those whispers turn to screams when we're alone.
Sometimes I'm scared by all you suggest, begging me to bring you there and you'll do the rest.
But the beating and the screaming and the pounding in my chest, leaves me breaking down.
Weeping "sorry I'm a mess".
But only one of us cares enough to speak, there's only one of us here you twisted freak!
Of course, I knew that. You tell me all the time. But it just won't settle in my mind.
All I've got is you all you've got is me. Let's not killourselves with trickery.
Stop inventing ghosts to haunt me, and I'll stop killing you with misery.
Slide down my throat and make me believe, that anything we wish for can be achieved.
I need you to be strong, like a big forcefield. Keep on pushing me 'till our fate is sealed.
But only one of us dares enough to speak, there's only one of us here you twisted freak!
Of course, I knew that. You tell me all the time. But it just won't settle in my mind.

Abstract Man
You're all, you're all, pistols at dawn
if you're gonna be pistols at all
and I've never been much of a fighter
but for you I would give my all
I do right, I do right by you when I can
can you love an abstract man
and darling is that enough for you
or do you need more than I am?
You're all, you're all, well planned attack
you know the maps now by heart
I never did learn them that well
I've always followed your trail
I do right, I do right by you when I can
can you love an abstract man
and darling is that enough for you
or do you need more than I am?
You're all you're all pistols at dawn
have you got it in you to draw?

Moan & Complain
Sheltered and loved I am, warm as a glove I am. Still I find time to moan and complain
Free as a bird I am, Give you my word I am, Still I find time to moan and complain
Don't have to work the land, or ever lift a hand, Still I find time to moan and complain
And I'm scared of my shadow Scared that I'm growing old
Quicker than I would like
Healthy and clean I am,Living the dream I am,Still I find time to moan and complain
Man of the world I am Skip and a twirl I am But still I find time to moan and complain
Don't have to work a tap I'm covered in Bubble-wrap Yet still I find time to moan and complain
And I'm scared of my shadow Scared that I'm growing old
Quicker than I would like
Well none of my bones Creak, And my roof don't leak there's no reason to be bleak
But there's a want in me, there for all to see,
but what it is I do not know
And I'm scared of my shadow Scared that I'm growing old
Quicker than I would like

Sleepless Street

Sleepless Street
Alison she slipped under the curtain and plunged right into Sleepless street.
The clothes she wore were minimal, and all a size or two too small, and she knew that she would fit right in.
She didn't crave enlightenment, only excitement, something to lose herself in.
Alison and I rarely spoke.
She moved slowly into this gathering of nocturnal nail-biters.
The place was a carnival, all glow and luminous, the insects danced from street lamp to street lamp,
Gazing down upon the swarms of escape artists shuffling chaotically below.
Alison had nowhere else to go.
She felt at ease among the lazy star gazers, the stray dogs and mathematicians,
She drifted into orbits packed tight with addicts of every possible shape and size,
Behind the dull glow of her eyes her mind was racing, she felt at last that she belonged.
Alison was very often wrong.
Dancing from one devil straight to the next one, each one took her deeper underground.
Into damp hollows where no light follows deep below the earth of sleepless street.
There she met with monsters with marks in their armour and women that cried out in shame.
Alison you're difficult to tame.
Time passed she broke away, it looks like she found a way back to the buzzing of the street,
The party was in full swing, the fireworks exploding and all the telephones and ears were ringing.
She pushed her way through the crowd, they all seemed more lost than found. the smoky air pulled heavy on her lungs.
She raced toward the curtain tripping over tired men, photographers and wild eyed lovers.
All that she wanted then was to feel the sun shining down on her pale face again.
Oh, Alison and I were never close, But I hope she makes it.
